“To increase encourage voter turnout, Lyft will offer free rides to people in underserved communities that day by working with Voto Latino, the Urban League and the National Federation of the Blind. Lyft is also teaming up with Vote.org, Nonprofit Vote, TurboVote and others to give away 50% off promo codes to riders. Riders can get help finding their polling location through the Lyft app.”

This is really cool. It’d be nice if this weren’t necessary, but this is a great way to help get more people out there who wouldn’t be able to ordinarily. Hopefully the results of this election will allow us to start tackling some of the suppression efforts that make this a necessity in the first place.

  1. Warning, long “me too” follows but I just loved this post so much it made me chatty. I was traveling recently and there were no conventional cabs so I resorted to the apps. The Uber one was broken and has since started spamming my phone with cheat codes. Lyft was amazing, got a young lady in a station wagon who was fantastic . . . informative, enthusiastic, proud of the ‘hood and making some cash getting randos back to the airport. On the other hand whenever I have to ride in someone else’s Uber call the driver is always depressed. Clear choice.
