There’s a My Little Pony version of Candyland my kiddo had his hands on at the store a couple weeks ago. He played it once with the younger sister of one of his school friends. I had to talk him out of it. “That’s a beginner game. You’re a bigger kiddo now.”
I’m ok with the game for the really young ones because it helps with color recognition and has them follow a simple path. But I really dislike the version with the spinner as well as the special candy spaces that let you ship part of the board…or even go backwards…
I don’t have kids but I’ve played with kids. As a parent, do you feel that it’s of value for children to learn to lose gracefully? Because the arbitrary nature of Candyland means the kid must deal with this at some point.
To make the game better let the kids draw two cards and keep one. It is a much better game from there.
My friend’s son made up a version where you’re being chased through candyland by zombies. It kicked ass.
Whyyyy
Paul Beakley It wasn’t me, I swear.
Your expression of skepticism about Elf tells me I can’t trust anything you say or do.

Paul Beakley And you’re asking me to take the word of a man who recommends Will Ferrel movies.
No, I recommend Elf without qualification.

Paul Beakley Ah! Noted.
(There’s a good Adam Sandler movie too.)

Determinism: The Game
Brad Murray as a parent, yeah, it’s absolutely vital to teach them to lose and win gracefully.
Candyland is still a shit game.

Given it says assembly required, I presume it’s the version with the spinner.
Drawing multiple cards is good… I also added that you can choose to play the candy cards on opponents.
It’s totally the version with the spinner.
Paul Czege game shaming? Paul, how could you.
Aaron Griffin that’s why the choice between two cards makes the game better.
To cheat, stack the deck with the game breaking pink space near the top.
