What is absurd is how we moralize about someone like Justin Bieber when he is pretentious or irresponsible. What else can one expect from a young man who, since his adolescence, has been the object of international obsession, and exposed to every vice that could possibly tempt a man? It is ludicrous for people to demand maturity.

  1. I’ve long felt the same way. We need a media company/producer/whatever that will serve as a trailblazer in this way. Right now stars serve additional duty as pimps promoters of their work. I’d love to have the adult stars, directors, and producers go out there without the kids and get asked about their absence. “We think kids should be kids. The late nights, loud press junkets, and constant need to put on a show isn’t something they should be exposed to yet. So-and-so is probably at home playing a video game and spending time with her family. That’s important.” I doubt it would start an immediate trend, but it would help put out there that stars are people, too, and kids need time to be kids.
