#12rpg Question 4: Tell me about your character in an RPG you’re currently playing, or have played this year.
Yekaterina “Katya” Alexandrov is a low-level telepath in the Champions 3rd Ed. game that MadJay Brown is running for me online. She’s on the front lines of the extra-dimensional war that has been raging since our earth was discovered by the Otherworld.
“One year ago Cerebus teams from GeoLock, LLC destroyed the last of the extra-dimensional gates and now tracks extra-dimensional fugitives and artifacts for containment”
Katya nominally commands a Cerebus team, which is part of the deal she was given in exchange for undergoing the Red Mercury treatment that gave her powers. The other part was asylum for her mother and grandmother, who like her, are refugees from the dimensional incursion that obliterated her home in Siberia.
She has some telepathy, mind control, and mental illusion abilities, as well as the power to prevent other people from perceiving her — invisibility, but only against those of whom she is aware. All of this requires her to concentrate, and so make in-combat use difficult. Thankfully, she has some combat martial arts training to compensate.
Katya is fiercely independent and despises the choices she’s been forced to make, but for her family comes first. It was either submit to authority or put her mother’s and grandmother’s lives at risk.
We’ve only played one session so far. It alternated between a recon mission to an old military base and her be-brief with the GeoLock staff psychologist, which was some brilliant GM’ing on Jay’s part. We’re playing again tonight, and I look forward to seeing what else I’ll learn about her.
Rogue One pic attached because I just realized that Felicity Jones in this context is a perfect fan-cast for Katya. BOOM.
