I’ve been creating characters for my upcoming HERO/Champions event for Gameday and HOO BOY am I rusty. It’s painstaking, basically like having to re-learn a language you haven’t spoken in forever.
Thankfully, there are various pre-fab products that do a certain amount of work for me. Still, I’d forgotten how much up-front work HERO asks you to do; you’re not picking stuff from a list on playbook, you’re designing the playbook from scratch each time.
Too much effort for the alleged payoff? Legit question.
Still, seeing a well-crafted power is pretty satisfying. Like seeing that someone’s used LEGOs to build a coffemaker or something.
I’ve often been tempted by Hero. The ability to build damn near anything has its appeal to my brain. It is a significant counter-current to most games I gravitate toward these days.
Just not sure I could put in the time. If I was unemployed and had summers off, though…
Nicholas Hopkins There is definitely a learning curve. If you like a) tinkering and 2) simulation, HERO can be fun.
The Hero Designer software is a must-have, though.
I am still super bummed to be missing this game day .
