Watching this ep of CC-Mythology got me wondering: What RPGs are out there for playing a god? Where you don’t just generate fiction, you generate a mythology?
Mythender was the first thing that leaped to mind. I know that Scion is kinda-sorta in this space (but not, afaik). And Heroquest seems like it’d be usable for such an endeavor.
Anything else?

Nobilis.
Godbound.
First two that came to mind.
Would they be useable for creating a mythology from scratch? “Okay, so the universe has been born, and infant Hermes decides to invent the lyre…”
Definitely! Either one of those, I think.
Godbound has a list of triggers/keywords/concepts you use to build any particular god. Nobilis I think is super open-ended.
Nobilis is IIRC more abstract-events-in-heaven type play than Godbound is supposed to be.
I can’t think of any RPG where you literally play out a creation myth. That’s interesting!
I made a hack of Capes way back for doing this. PDFed it and everything. Not sure what happened to it though.
Found it!
Oh and there was an old game named Aria: Canticle of the Monomyth that did this but I don’t remember it being very good.
Aria is super terrible!
I mean, maybe a bit loosey-goosey for what you’re looking for, but Microscope would be fun, especially if you allowed multiple Scenes to contradict each other within the same Event, to account for the fact that sometimes myths are inconsistent.

Universalis.
Dave Michalak I totally thought about that right after I posted!
Bret Gillan I have also heard nothing but negatives about Aria.

Adam D Yes! Good call.
Aria was mostly about world creation, not playing a god. It suffered from wanting too much to design it’s own language and being way to academic in its approach to things, and then ending up with a lack of detail.
Savage Worlds : Suzerain is about playing Demi-Gods
