For a long time, I’ve wanted to put together a fictional universe in the spirit of the pulp media I grew up with — Indiana Jones, the Rocketeer, the Shadow, the Phantom, and so on — but without so many of the tropes that made those things difficult to like. I wanted to riff on those ideas, turn them over, put women and POC more front and center, but most of all, create stuff that was really fun to write and read. With the help of Joshua Unruh, that dream is slowly starting to materialize. The second issue of Masks & Mysteries is out now. It’s very small, but things are only going to get bigger. Future installments will be longer, the scope larger, the stakes higher, and the adventure (we hope) more exciting. There’ll be a website soon, too.
