I am totally down for this. And, being weird, Im not super-nuts that it’s a box set, but still, pretty cool.
Also interesting to see SJG go down the “contained versions of our house universal system” road that Hero Games has also traveled. At least, I am aware of this and the upcoming new edition of their standalone Discworld RPG.

I’m just happy that SJG is doing something with GURPS at all, being that it isn’t Munchkin.
I think they did a similar thing with Transhuman Space as well, self contained game line that used 3e rules but didn’t require any of the books.
Jason Bossert I remember THS had a version of the main book that had GURPS Lite in it (I own it), but the line as a whole wasn’t stand-alone, was it?

Mark Delsing I believe that was its initial form. I own the books and near as I can recall, it was a self contained line later on.

EDIT: From the THS website, it looks like there were two versions, a hardback and a softcover with different contents.
This Powered by GURPS line was created by David L. Pulver and illustrated by Christopher Shy. The core book, Transhuman Space, opens with close to a hundred pages of world and background material. The hardback edition includes a customized GURPS Lite – no other books are required to use it, although the GURPS Basic Set and Compendium I are recommended for GMs. The softback requires the Basic Set and Compendium I, but nothing else.

I literally cannot imagine sitting down for an evening of GURPS.
Paul Beakley Oh no. You won’t get there even. First you have to spend three hours building your vehicle.
I was the huuuugest GURPS fanboy during the ’90s, too. They even had me on contract to do GURPS Inferno at one point, when Blankenship was their editor.

Paul Beakley OMFG CAN I GET YOUR AUTOGRAPH
I dunno what it is, but I’ve developed a huge fascination with GURPS lately. I honestly would love to sit down to play it — with the right group of people.
