The Graves family should thank God they had the privilege to be born white. Through no virtue of their own, they’ll be spared the investigations and castigations suffered by their black counterpart. They won’t suffer as much in the court of public opinion; the bulk of the public is mourning Lane, not blaming them for his death.

I wouldn’t have noticed this on my own, so I thank Rebecca Jane Stokes for pointing it out to me.
I have condemned the white parents in my own personal life (not online). But my girlfriend tells me that not everyone knows about the dangers of alligators. The white parents were from Nebraska.
As a Georgia native and lifelong Florida tourist, I would immediately reprimand anyone (regardless of age) in shallow water in Florida or South Georgia that wasn’t the ocean. Even some saltwater interior bays can be home to alligators.
Also, maybe this is just me, but I would never let my 2 year old play in any amount of water without my hands on them. A 2 year old could drown in a bathtub, much less an actual body of water.
