  1. I remember reading an anthology of old Batman comics my brother-in-law had on his shelf. They were goofy little episodic things with plotlines like “inspired by professional baseball, the Joker starts trading henchmen with gangs and mobs to build the perfect team.” In one, a goon rushes Batman in a rooftop battle, and Batman does a sort of aikido kick/throw thing to toss the dude right off the roof to his death. The plot then continued with the main bad guy seeking revenge for Bats’ killing the mook. It stuck with me, to the point where I’m less surprised than most when, e.g. Tim Burton’s Batman roars “I’m going to kill you” at the Joker.
