The fact that her most famous image is that of a woman enslaved and degraded by wearing that preposterous getup, carries with it an extra layer of bitterness to this already sad narrative. The fans would, literally, prefer her to be a slave to a giant slug than to listen to her complain about the struggles of aging.

  1. What had jumped out at me isn’t necessarily Fisher’s weight discussion but the fact that kind of everywhere it’s couched so carefully: “Hollywood asked her to lose weight.” Hollywood isn’t a monolith.

    I’m kind of curious to know if Abrams is a cynical corporate shark and personally confronted her about her weight/appearance, or if it was someone inside Disney responsible or what. I think Abrams gets a huge pass from fans because he’s now in the pantheon with Lucas and Spielberg and Jackson.
