If there’s anything on the Wizards of the Coast forums that you want to keep, pull it off ASAP.

It’s interesting to see companies pull back from this sort of thing. First it was comments, then forums. I’m not saying this is a bad thing, or even that it’s a major trend.

I do think that a lot of companies’ money and time would be better spent on things other than managing forums.

  1. Also, I’m increasingly convinced that publisher forums are a liability. They either go moribund, which drags the brand down, or they break down at scale, attracting an increasing amount of bad behavior. Nowadays I’d rather have community effects in the social media landscape than a forum community. I’d rather have a hot hashtag for a couple of months, every few months.
